Associate Breeder

Main Objectives:

This position is accountable for implementing and conducting intensive nursery and seed processing operations under defined timeliness.

 Main responsibilities::

·         Planning, organization, coordination, resourcing, execution and supervision of nursery and seed processing activities.

·         Coordinate genotyping activities with Ankeny´s molecular lab and seed induction and DH Production activities to ensure that the breeding cycle turn around is met during defines timelines.

·         Preparation of yield trials and export for testing to US and Canada within defines timelines.

·         Being a promoter and implementer of new breeding technology and crop management systems.

·         Sharing and adopting of best practices with special focus on mechanization and automation of field and seed processing activities.

·         Meet annual budget and capital spending guidelines and monthly spending forecast.

·         Full involvement in recruiting, training, development and retention of contract and seasonal personnel; providing frequent and opportune training, coaching and feedback.

·         Establish frequent and productive relationships and connections with Breeding, Technology and TI personnel to plan and concert nursery, seed processing and seed import/export activities to improve productivity and effectiveness. 

 Required Skills/Experience:

·         PhD or MS in Plant Breeding and Genetics or related field with 2 - 3 years of appropriate breeding and research work experience

·         BS in agricultural field

·         Statistical theory and experimental designs.

·         5+ years of practical and successful corn breeding experience

·         Results oriented breeder with strong drive for teamwork, continuous improvement and adoption of best practices; making an effective use of technology and innovations to create a competitive advantage.

·         Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish, both written and oral.

·         Computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet programs.

·         Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams.

·         Demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize tasks.
