DH Production Research Assistant

Monsanto is currently seeking a highly motivated DH Production Research Assistant with the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary Breeding and Research Team based at La Charca, Guanajuato, Mexico. 

Main Objective:

The DH Production Research Assistant´s function is to assist the LAN DH Production Team to ensure global DH supply to MONSANTO Breeding Programs.
This is an excellent opportunity to work with leading edge technology and talented cross functional scientists of MONSANTO worldwide to reduce corn breeding cycle and improve genetic gain. 

Job responsibilities include:

-       Core responsibilities include utilization of field research equipment and management of lab and field DH Production operations to gain efficiency and efficacy.
-       Assist in equipment transport and maintenance.
-       Preparation, organization and conduction of ICB induction seed production.
-       Significant overnight traveling during the screening, germination, doubling, potting, transplanting, pollinating, harvest, seed drying and seed distribution activities.
-       Manage a team of contract and seasonal employees as job demands along the year to perform activities directly related to the function.
-       Supervision and training of contract and temporary employees; performing safety inspections, and assist in providing safety training.
-       Connect and interact with scientists and breeders within and outside MONSANTO for project related needs and personal development.
-       Being a promoter and implementer of new breeding technology and crop management systems.

Required Skills/Experience:

-       MS or BS in Plant Breeding or related field with 2 - 3 years of appropriate breeding and research work experience, respectively.
-       Broad knowledge of crop production and farming practices applied to corn research; as well equipment operation.
-       Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish, both written and oral.
-       Willingness and ability to work extended hours during the peak planting and harvest seasons.
-       Computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet programs.
-       Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
-       Demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize tasks.
-       Strong drive for teamwork, continuous improvement and adoption of best practices; making an effective use of technology and innovations to create a competitive advantage.
